Prior to NAFTA, there were many complaints about tariffs between different countries in North America. This has made moving products from one country to another less attractive, because there would be less profit to be made. By removing many of these rights, it has encouraged businesses to sell their goods and services throughout North America. This is good news because it significantly increases the number of potential customers each company will have. In the 1960s, the EEC quickly succeeded in creating both a free trade area and a customs union. Although French President Charles de Gaulle thwarted the desire to go beyond intergovernmentalism and introduce a qualified majority by French President Charles de Gaulle, the EU launched the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and began to develop its competition policy in the 1960s. After General de Gaulle`s resignation in 1969, the way was opened to the accession of the United Kingdom and the first enlargements, which included not only the United Kingdom, but also Denmark and Ireland. In the 1970s, the European Communities (later the European Community, EC) introduced the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), used ECC instruments to combat overcapacity in the steel industry, and established a competition law framework to complement their policies to support agriculture. The direct election to the European Parliament was also agreed and implemented. At the same time, the European Court of Justice has established jurisprudence that has constitutionalized treaties and established the supremacy of European law over national law. In the 1980s, the EU made further progress by implementing qualified votes in the Council of Ministers, passing on the internal market and agreeing to consider both a monetary union and a closer political union.
Long before NAFTA was envisaged or implemented, the EU became an increasingly complex multi-level system, in which decision-making jurisdiction had been transferred from national capitals to Brussels in several policy areas. www.differencebetween.net/business/difference-between-wto-and-nafta/#ixzz1hv129bPp The main difference between the North American Free Trade Agreement and the European Union is its scope. NAFTA remains a purely economic agreement between three countries, while the EU has become a political, social and territorial union between 28 countries. Other major differences between NAFTA and the EU are the most important: conversely, the EU is a more complex and unique economic and political union between 28 European countries. It was originally created to facilitate exchanges between a limited number of states, but later a political union developed. All Member States have adopted the same currency – the euro – and goods, capital and people can move freely within EU borders. NAFTA and the EU differ in scope, scope, size and implementation, since the former remains a purely economic agreement, while the latter has become a territorial, social, political and economic union. The provisions of NAFTA are known. The contract opened trade in goods not regulated by other contracts, such as the automobile. B, which are governed by the automobile pact.
Unlike the eu`s founding treaty, neither the Canada-U.S. Usa has agreements, and NAFTA has not indicated anything other than a free trade area. While there is a good thing in Canada that Canada should take back the U.S. dollar and thinks that Canada will eventually join the United States, the North American free trade agreement has no aspiration for a customs or monetary union, much less a closer political union.
